tab top curtains

Hi All
Im looking for some nice tab top curtains (is that what they are called- old sytle you put hook into the pleats?).
Ive a wooden pelmet with curtain rail underneath (its kinda built into ceiling & coving and apparently it will be a big, messy & prob exp job to remove it). I tried to put up a new eyelet rail but it hangs down too low under & sticks out under pelmet so im back to old rail. Ive an old pair of my mam's curtains up at the moment (red & flowery), im just looking for a new fashionable pair (nice colour/design) but in shops I can only see the eyelet ones. im also looking for 90*130 which seems v hard to get in any type.

Can someone recommend anywhere?

How hard would it be to buy eyelet curtains & maybe cut off top & make the pleats myself?
 
As the pelmet is covering the curtain rail it would probably be too messy alright to alter it.

There are plenty of shops with pencil pleat curtains which I think is what you need.

If you read through you should get some advice on where to buy - if you are in Dublin the immediate shops that spring to mind for value are Heitons (Linens and Lace), Guineys, Talbot St., Hickeys (Home Focus), Arnotts (Bargain Basement) and Harry Corry.

The size that you are looking for is not a standard readymade curtain and you may well need to get them made to order. I only recall seeing 90x90. There will also be some weight in 130" drop.

It would be quite hard to cut off the top of the curtains and just sew on tape yourself. A job for an experienced seamstress I would think. You would waste a lot of money if it went wrong. In light of the fact that you already mentioned that you need 130" drop then you would probably need another 3/5" allowance to cut off because the standard tape is 3".

I don't think you want tab top curtains - they are the type with a kind of squared loop on top that you slot a wooden pole through. You need tape top curtains, and most ready made curtains come in a maximum drop of 90". If you are looking for cheap curtains, IKEA do a longer drop, and a few of their styles have tape tops. They don't have a gret selection of ready made curtains, but on the other hand their range of curtain fabrics is quite good if you want to get some made. It's quite expensive to get curtains made, about €30 per width and a pair of curtains will probably be 4 x widths.
