Sorry if my post has been answered or debated already but a quick search under 'summons' didnt find my answer and I'm really worried about this!

Mid-oct 2005 my licence plate fell off my motorbike (which was hanging on by a thread and I kept putting off fixing.......I know I know my own fault!!).

That saturday I was on my way to get it replaced and I was stopped at the lights by a motorbike traffic guard. He asked why I had no plates and I explained that I was on my way to get it replaced. He took my name and address and stated 'get it sorted'. He did not ask me for my driving licence or any other details. Havent heard a thing since..........wasnt expecting to hear anything either!

I have now received in the post a summons to appear in court in two weeks time for not having a valid licence plate displayed!

What is the likely outcome?
Can I be summons for something that happened over a year ago.........

Thanks in advance for any responses......
