Summer job problem/not working out as hoped

I'm a mature student, just finished first year and was offered a well-paid job for the summer months which suited me perfectly. In April, before my exams, the manager suggested I work 2 to 3 days a week over the summer once my exams were out of the way.
I asked that she let me know when work would arise since I didn't want to spend petrol turning up for nothing. I turned up on 3 June and did 4 hours work and since then nothing. I rang her last Friday and she didn't return my call so today I emailed her and simply said "I'll be in tomorrow". She wrote back, that's great, sorry I didn't ring you back, been hectic here blah blah blah.
I've sent out my CV to various agencies who don't even acknowledge receipt. I felt that I had been left high and dry in the middle of June by this person when it's very difficult to find work. So I'm going to persevere and go in. But, do I just turn up on 2 or 3 days and sit there waiting for work?? (not my style). I only get the paid the hours I actually work.
Or, morally questionable, submit 2 days of work even if I haven't done any since I am freeing myself up to be at their disposal. This goes against the grain but I'm mad at how things have worked out and feel quite intimated by this manager although I've worked for over 20 years!
Sorry for this long rambling email. All suggestions welcome.
Thank you.

Move on.... these things happen, agencies don't get back to you.

Send out more CVs, follow up with a phone call, could you do some English language teaching? - lots of opportunities from July onwards. Good luck.
