Suggestion for charity donation

Around this time every year I make donations to around 6 charities, I like to spread it around so different charities get a turn. In recent years I've pretty much covered all the well known charities but I'm starting to run out of ideas.

So could I ask for suggestions for unnoticed/underfunded charities, just a few names will do to point me in a direction.

Thanks in advance :)

If you haven't done it before or even if you have I think an animal charity is always worth a donation
They don't get to voice or even stand up to the cruelty that some lowlife's inflict upon them and they sometimes get forgotten about with all the other stuff going on around us, so for me a "cat lover" some form of animal charity is always on my list

Involved with an event and we choose different beneficiaries every year. A lot of these would have some connection to the event, either through the participation of someone connected to the beneficiaries, through the kindness they've shown to the event or a committee member just identifies them as doing good work. They're not all registered charities but we sell the event as doing good for others and volunteerism is important, registered charity or not.

As a rule of thumb, I try to avoid charities that spend a lot of corporate logos, advertising, hire chuggers and have lots of employees.

I've given to Dogs Aid Animal Sanctuary a couple of times, and was out there to see their facilities first hand, about 18 months ago - they are relatively small and it's nothing fancy, but they impressed me as hard working. I've no connection with them, but will likely donate again.

Ah, the fabulous Maggie :) Have never been over there but have heard/read so many good stories. They also helped to rehome a stray dog that a friend found many years ago when no one else would help.

Another fabulous organisation is Kildare Animal Foundation who work so hard and are managing on a shoestring. Have been there and have seen how little they have and still manage to care for the animals so well.

Any Galway people frequenting AAM will be well aware also of the trojan work that Galway SPCA do so deserve a mention/consideration.

You didn't mention your level of donation, but bear in mind if you donate 250, the charity can claim tax on the donation

So you might be able to have more impact by donating more to fewer charities. Also if you are working in a large corporate, check if they have donation matching.

I'd keep it local and look at various sports clubs that are always in need of equipment.

Ask them what equipment is needed and buy it for them - I bought an ice making machine for a local football club a couple of years ago and it was very much appreciated.
