Hi,
I have spoken to two different people in the tax office without success. I am a student in Ireland who will work in Spain for 3 months as part of my studies. According to the Double Taxation agreement, I am exempt from paying tax as a student.
The problem is, my employer (a university) in Spain requires a letter from the Revenue confirming that I am tax-resident here (which I am, I am Irish and have lived here all my life). But the Revenue refuse to give me one because I don't pay tax, being a student.
So basically despite having this Double Taxation clause for students, I can't actually take advantage of it, BECAUSE I am a student. My employer will deduct 24% if they don't get this letter, which is quite a lot.
Does anyone have any advice? My plan is to go into the tax office, again, and ask to speak with the supervisor if I don't get help, but maybe someone here has some experience with this problem?
Thanks in advance!
