Student Maintenance Grant - Parents on Rent Allowance

Hi, I'm just looking for some help with an issue I have, I've looked on various websites and can't find any clear information.

I'm 26, with a degree that qualifies me to to very little - I've been doing admin jobs for the past 2 years earning 25k. I cant see myself progressing without going back to college to do a postgraduate course in a different area. I'd like to start in September 2009 and I've been doing some research into maintenance grants. Here where the problem lies...

My parents are in their late 60's, my dad is retired and my mother has an illness which prevented her from working. When my dad lost his job in the 80's, their house was repossessed and we were on rent allowance for a couple of years, until my dad found another job. He continued renting as no bank would give him a mortgage. He retired earlier this year and had to go back on the rent allowance - my parents are now living in a small two bed house, and I moved out last year and am currently renting a room in Dublin (in a different local authority area to my parents).

The problem is that in order to afford to go back to college for a year, I need to live at home (as I wont be able to afford the rent I'm paying now), but I'm not sure this would be allowed given my parents current situation. Also, the grant application form asks that you've been living in that particular local authority area for a certain amount of time (for 2008-09, its since 01/10/07). However, for almost a year now I've been living in Dublin City.

Is there any way I'm entitled to live at home and get the grant? If I cant, I wont be able to go back to college. This is something I really want to do, as I dont want to end up in my parents position years down the line.

Can anyone give me advise? Thanks for reading.

Have you any options for studying at night instead of full-time? I'm not sure if this is a practical suggestion, as I guess most of the nighttime course have pretty substantial fees attached.

Hi, I did look into doing a part time course, and yes it is very expensive, and I'd rather focus 100% on my studies and get it done in a year - also my first choice course isnt available part time.

I just hope there's some way around this
