Student Accommodation ATU Galway

Eldest has Leaving Cert completed, awaiting results and CAO. Most likely will be heading to Galway ATU so starting the search for accommodation. Have registered with the purpose built units but on a waiting list, so not hopeful of getting anything there. Is it too early to look? Do people wait for the CAO offers before starting the search? Have seen some places advertised but some only until September, just wondering does it all happen in August.

I have a friends son looking at the moment and it's very hard to find somewhere. My own son found it difficult 2 years ago and ended up sofa surfing for a few weeks before finding a room for €200 per week, Sunday night til Friday. It's a disaster for students trying to find a place. If he is on a list for student accommodation he may still get a room because other students who have accepted the rooms may not even end up going to college in Galway. I'd definitely be on the look out now. Ask around your home town to see if any other students might have a house with a spare room. You never know who'd have contacts.
