Stripping topsoil and storing it???

Hi,


Would it be a good or bad idea to get the topsoil on my site stripped into heaps now and leave it over the winter.

Is there a ideal time of year to carry out this work?

When the soil is dry is best time to stor it. Moisture in the core of a heap can result in soil getting compressed and going anaerobic, stinky dead topsoil is the outcome.

So if we are lucky enough to get a dry september would it be alright to store it over the winter then?
 
Definitely only work topsoil when it is dry. When you have it stockpiled, make sure that the excavator driver smooths and shines the whole heap to encourage any water to run off the heap rather than soak down into it.
