I remember when I was a teenager and an incident with an electric trimmer's where a piece of a stone made contact with my eye. I happened to be wearing contact lenses at the time and the lens broke right in the middle. At the time I was more worried having to explain to the parents I needed a new lense (40 pound at the time) but that would have been a nasty eye injury or worse if I hadn't the lense in. Today I use a petrol strimmers and would never use it without a full face guard. They cost about 25 euros. I also make sure to wear long trousers as you will get some nasty cuts all over from the debris if strimming long enough.
