Sticky substance found at back of freezer

[Protocol]

Standing Zanussi larder freezer.

It seems that it has been running somewhat louder than usual recently.

It began to beep yesterday, and the red alarm button is flashing.


We defrosted it today.

Turned it and hoovered and cleaned out the back as much as possible. Sticky substance found on small part on back, see photos below.

Plugged back in, red light still flashing. Noise still ongoing from the back.

Can anybody advise what to do?

Could it be a refrigerant leak? Might explain the alarm if there is refrigerant leaking out, I'm assuming that pipe is freezing and then that's why it's freezing over??
