Sticky Kitchen Table

We bought a kitchen table and chairs 11 years ago. It's a substantial set but not expensive. The problem is that it has always been sticky when the surface is dry. No matter what we clean the table top with it remains sticky - enouigh to take newsprint off and patterns off wrapping paper, for example.

Any suggestions to unstick the table top?

Had same problem before, sand, seal and re varnish and was like new.

there is Ronseal Yacht Varnish. IT is very rxpensive but brilliant but any ordinary varnish or laquer will do

Another option is to use a kitchen tablecloth - you can get really nice ones nowadays - they can be cut to size. So, if the varnish trick doesn't work - maybe head to Heatons or other Home Store and get a length of washable tablecloth.
