Stay Single or go Joint

I've a well paying job (thank God) from which I can afford to put away a bit each month for the next couple of years. My girlfriend is self employed and while she can go through purple patches in earning, it is irregular. We would hope to have enough put away so that when the time arises we would have a deposit for a house and other large events down the line. However, she has ICB issues which won't be rectifid for 5 years. My question has two parts.

First of all if we jointly applied for something like a mortgage down the line and it transpires that her credit rating is a hindrance to it, does a joint (and equal contributions) savings account count for anything?

Secondly, if I apply on my own and the track record of savings is looked at, will I be given the credit for the amount of savings jointly held?

I'd appreciate any comments please as I'm wondering whether to just save alone.
