Hi Gang can you advice me please? I have been recently laid off from my construction job, prospects for new employment are virtually nil at the moment.Anyway luckily my wife is back to work soon after maternity leave, so i will be a HouseDad for the foreseeable future. My question is should i still have to apply for the jobseekers allowance as usual or is there some other avenue for stay at home dads? My jobseekers allowance would be virtually nil due to my wifes wages so if i sign on it will only to keep up my stamp credits.Any advice appreciated,Chippy

Thankyou Irishlinks you have been most helpful plus your dead right i will be kept very busy at home.Chippy

And a set top cable box!

Irishlinks is correct. If you are available for work, Jobseekers is the way to go. If you are a full time house husband, you won't be available.

AFAIK, you get non means tested Jobseekers Benefit for a year or 15 month if you have enough contributions and some relative who would be prepared to mind child in the unlikely event of you getting a job.
