Would I be liable for past debt when left Ireland in 2012, I had deals done with two banks but two other debts was left without contact (car loan & credit union loan). My choice was to go bankrupt or leave.
If I returned would the financial institutions come after me for payment of past debts over 6 years ago

They can still chase you for the money. However if you have made no payments or acknowledged either debt since 2012 then, in the event that your creditors litigate to recover the money, your defence is that the debts are statute barred.

Hello
Thank you for your reply to my question, just to clarify if the debt is statute barred that will mean they cannot legally try to recover the debts I incurred before 2012.

They can try to get a judgement against you at any point beyond six years. If either bank does issue proceedings your defence is that the debts are statute barred in which case the banks will be unsuccessful in obtaining judgement against you

Personally I would do nothing unless I received notification of litigation.
