Apologies if this has been covered somewhere else but does anyone know if a person can claim both the old age pension and a public service pension?
I have been told that if a person has at least 10 years paying full prsi in the private sector and then joins the public service, they are entitled to claim the state pension as well as their pension from work at 65.

Any help is appreciated.

If you qualify for the State Contributory Pension on your PRSI contributions, you will receive it. Rules for qualification here.

If you start in the Public Service after April 1995, the Public Service pension will be integrated with the State Pension, i.e. will include it.
