Hi there, I am looking to start a mobile coffee van in 2026. I have done a lot of research, and I find myself going around in circles. As a complete newbie to this, I was wondering if there is anyone out there with a bit more experience to share. Like how to approach the Council re casual trading licences, the best insurance broker, how to find the right van in terms of being HSE approved. What the pitfalls to watch out for are. Also any grants that might be available for entrepreneurs.

Maybe some useful information in previous threads.

The easiest route is to talk to other similar operators.

You'd be surprised at how many will chat and give advice once they know you won't be competing with them.

I see most of these are on private lands - business parks, sports clubs, pub car parks, farmers markets etc.

Very clever person set one up in their back garden that happens to open out to the entrance to Kildare town train station :D

@ClubMan Thanks, that's great advice. I will link in with LEO, the other posts on here that you mention are a bit outdated, but thanks. @peemac I have been very reluctant to do this, but I might now that you suggest it! thanks

Don't mean to be too negative but that is the first type of business that will go if the economy tanks. Unless, you're planning on parking outside a HSE hospital.. At the end of the Celtic Tiger loads of coffee shops went to the wall. Anything over priced and discretionary.
