Hi
In 2006 i purchased a property from my mother and i now wish to pass it on to my son.
He applied for mortgage approval and the bank asked what was property purchased for.
We searched but could not find any evidence of the transaction even the solicitor had his records shredded
Is there anywhere we could find out what stamp duty was paid on this? or is there anywhere else we could search for the amount?

Thanks

That sounds odd? Why would they care what it sold for in the past? They're going to their own valuation survey for mortgage purposes now so it seems odd that they're asking about the selling price 20 years ago. What reason did they give for wanting this information?

Did you buy it with a mortgage in 2006? If so then maybe the deeds/folio list the mortgage amount which would give you a good idea of how much you paid?

They gave no reason for asking.
No it was not bought with mortgage so that would not apply.
