Hi,
We're are FTBs and the solicitor asked us to make the cheque for the stamp duty payable to his company? Is this the norm?

Thanks in advance.

Stamp duty has to be paid on or before completion. Solicitor must be in funds to be able to complete obligations to Bank/Lender

You can do either of the following:
1. Cheque for stamp duty payable to solicitor - Revenue will not accept your personal cheque. As a practising solicitor, I will not accept your personal cheque - just in case.
2. Bank draft payable to Revenue for stamp duty.
