Forgive me if this has been asked before but i'm new to this forum. My situation is that my husband is not a 1st time buyer but I am and we have put a bid on a house - is there anyway of avoiding stamp duty. Is it possible for the house to be in my name only?

If you google Revenue first time buyer stamp duty, you will find a very informative set of pointers.

The short answer is no. For such reasons as (a) lender wants both names on title and on mortgage and/or (b) you can't raise the finance in your own name solely.

Similar question, slightly different situation. I am getting married later in year and am selling my house now. My soon to be spouse is a first time buyer. If she buys now a house in her own name, she is stamp duty exempt, no?
