Squatters in the House

I was walking around my new build yesterday when I came evidence of some squatters in the master bedroom.



the windows are due to go into the house in about 3 weeks so for the birds sake i'd like to move the nest so they aren't trapped in the house. has anyone any advice on what i should do to safely move the nest or what is the best thing to do?
 
:D thought you had posted in the wrong forum - great picture - honoured guests should have been the title!

I think they don't normally leave Ireland until September, but usually the young birds leave the nest before this and roost in trees and other places before beginning their journey back to Africa.

I would wait another couple of weeks to see if they leave of their own accord. Would be a shame to disturb them now.
 
Put in your windows and leave the biggest one open. Then tape dark paper over the closed ones lest the birds break their necks. Put on Julio Inglesias singing "La Paloma" and tell them to send a card :)
 
honoured guests might have been a bit more appropriate alright :)

leaving the windows open might be the best solution alright - great idea to tape them up and only have the opening with light coming in it. hopefully as delgirl says they might start to leave the nest of their own accord soon enough
 
same thing happen to us, house was open during early part of the summer a few years back, reckon we had close to 10 nests all over the house. just left them alone until end of summer and then started on the house again, was told you would have no luck if you disturbed them.
 
We had a nest too, but the roon it was in had a bay window, so they still had access as it was not roofed until after they emigrated ! They have been back the last 2 summers too, nesting somewhere in the roof ?

Put the windows in , they should have fledged in about 3 weeks, you can always let a window open for them until the go completely
 
thanks for all the feedback. will black out the glass and open a window and see how it goes
 
Can I just say fitzie well done for taking such a sympathetic and enlightened approach to this. If only all Irish people acted with your consideration.
