No I didn't get permission for doing their job. They were there, but worse than useless. I hired a carpet cleaner as well and did the carpets too I forgot about that.
Rug Doctor can be handy for that job. Used it many years ago and found it good. B&Q used to hire them out but they don't seem to be on the list any longer.
