Sony VAIO - keyvboard problems

My Sony VAIO (VGN-AR51E) keyboard has a key that has stopped working (the right arrow key). A quick google search, and it looks like this is going to be an ongoing problem. As more keys die, there a that risk that wht i typ may becom unradable....if you get my drift.

Any one reported any problems with these key boards? Obviously it will be going back as it's still under warranty, I suppose when this starts happening outside the warranty, a USB keyboard might have to be used.

Are you sure that it's not simply a case of having to clean out the keyboard - e.g. by GENTLY hoovering, clearing out any crumbs/debris etc.?

Can you link to some of the web pages that deem this to be an ongoing or known problem with this make/model?

I had this problem many years ago with a Toshiba. When I contacted the company they admitted that there was a design flaw and told me to bring it to a workshop in Dublin where they fitted a hardware patch FOC.

The gist of the problem was that the ribbon connector that connects the keyboard to the motherboard was capable of working lose from its clamp. As the threads in the cable would disconnect, different keys would stop working.

So, If your machine is too old to bring back to the shop, have a look at unclipping the keyboard and checking its attachment to the motherboard. It may just need to be unclipped and clipped back again.
