I got my parents old Sony surround sound DVD system - well it is about 2 years old but it was top of the range at the time. Not at home now so not sure the exact brand name will find it out later. Anyway set it all up and it is great only problem is the remote does not work at all - changed the baterries etc but still no joy. If it was a rubbish one would not mind and would simply get a universal remote but it has alot of functionaliy that you can only use with this remote. The gaurantee was only for a year so anyone know what my best option would be to get it fixed will get the make a little later or should I just get a universal remote?

There should be a model number on the remote. Try googling this for links. I had similar issue with JVC system. A sister company of Currys do this sort of stuff - [broken link removed]

Are you 100% sure it is a faulty remote? Likely it is but it could be a problem on the receiver end. Could you test any of the basic functionality with an existing universal remote if you own one?

Better (but more expensive!) Universal Remotes have a "learn function" whereby you can transfer any function from the old remote. The only problem is you need the old remote to work in order to do this (in which case you probably won't want/ need to then buy a new one!).

There is no light coming from the sensor in the remote - it was working for my folks they got a DVD recorder so did not need both. Will have the model a bit later

It is Sony smaster full digital amplifier, it has on the remote which is blue AV system3 remss880R if that helps

You can check if the remote is working by selecting `am` band on a radio and putting remote near to base of aerial on radio and press any key on remote, you should hear `machine gun like ` sound. Obviously turn on radio and slightly off tune a station to get a clearer reaction.( try first with a good remote from your tv).

Enter the model number of your Sony receiver (not the remote model) here - [broken link removed]

They supply remotes and other spares.
