Sony minidisc/recorder

Last minute pressie (if I can afford to buy)

Thinking about getting the Sony as above but need advice first - will it be
1. Recordable on its own or has it to be connected to a computer?
2. How is the sound for recording violin?
3. I am down the country - would Argos stock a not too expensive version?

Personally I would sooner buy an MP3 player instead of a MiniDisc right now. There are a number of topics in this forum about MP3 players and what to look out for.
 
To answer your questions:

1. You don't need to have a computer at all.
2. Depends on the quality of the mic you're using, but if you spend a bit of time playing around with the record volume and mic position you can get a pretty decent recording.
3. You should be able to get a good model for less than €200. It's usually only well known brands that manufacture them.
