Son on work visa for 1 year in Sydney and needs travel insurance for trip to Bali

I would really appreciate it if anyone would know how to get travel insurance for my son to take a 2 week trip starting from Sydney to Perth then on to Bali and return back to Sydney 2 weeks later.

He left Ireland for Sydney last September and is due back to his job in Ireland this April.
He has a valid working visa to work in Australia for 1 year.
He does not have Australian health insurance.

I have been ringing around today but the main problem Im having is the Irish insurers will only insure him if he is in Ireland now and would be departing from Ireland.
Really appreciate any help on this.
 
Can he not organise it himself from Sydney? What would an Australian person do if they were taking a similar trip?
 
I use insureandgo.ie and I do not recall there being restrictions to the effect that you had to be in the country to initiate the cover

A lot of the Australian insurers require permanent residency or health cover as far as I am aware.

I tried that website but the following declaration comes up:
  • Reside and are currently present in the Republic of Ireland
 
His best bet would be to ask around his colleagues at work or any Australians he knows, they should be able to point him in the right direction of local providers and then he should just look at the T&C to make sure his visa/residency status covers him.

Does he have a year long travel insurance as part of his year away that would already cover him? As far as I recall (and this was many many moons ago!) we just had one year long plan that was worldwide so as we moved around we were always covered?

Sorry now we didn't take out the the 1 year worldwide travel insurance.

It did look promising until I got to the end.
I put in all the details into the website.
Im really only concerned with the arrival to Bali and return to Sydney 9 day trip.
It listed some 40 different quotes.
I have completed 2 or 3 already and only when you get to the end of the quote that Im still getting the requirement for Australian health cover.
