Hi, I am applying for a Canadian visa and am about to send some documents (birth certs, college results, references etc.) off to the immigration department for assessment.

According to their website, the imm. dept. recommend sending photocopies of documents as originals will not be returned. They say I can photocopy documents and get a solicitor to verify, then stamp them before I send the docs over. Does anyone know how much on average a solicitor would charge for such a service ??

I seem to remember it being posted here that solicitors will charge a small nominal fee for such work - something like €5-€10. However I can't find the article in question nor can I find authoritative confirmation of this.

gardai an option?

Gardai can usually stamp documents such as passport photocopies etc. for these purposes and they'd do it for free!

If you really need a Commissioner of Oaths, you might be stuck with your solicitor, but I'd chance the gardia first...
