Solar Panels

Hi there,

We've just bought a house with no central heating and we're thinking about installing solar panels. Its a good opportunity to do this now as we'll be getting a lot of work done anyway, new extension with new roof etc. I've heard that its expensive to install but the returns are worth it and after a few huge ESB bills I'm definitely willing to give it a try! Has anyone done this before? Any idea where I could get some information or a price quotation? Its a standard two-bed terraced house in Dublin.

There is a consumer program on RTE on Saturday mornings. There was a solar panel incident which ended up as a mess (exploding tubes etc.). Be sure you work off recommendation.

Using solar energy for heating is economically unwise unless you cut down on heat demand to an absolute minimum . For example by insulating. For around €2.500 you can get a domestic hot water system which would save around 10-20% of your energy bill.Check the last link on " solar panels " given by suellen .

Thanks for the advice, I'll check out all the options. It would be a shame to think that it could work out as being uneconomical.

Hi Heinbloed,

Can you give us some more info on the system you are talking about?
Thanks

6 m2 plus tank ( 300 l ) plus regulator and pump and so on , a complete package . Valid only until the end of the month. So they say . Usually some other seller turns up after the final date and has the same offer. See also http://www.top50-solar.de/
The page is available in English as well.
