Hi

We have a small transport company, I am the sole employee on the books. I have a genuine home office. We have 6 diesel vehicles but I am soon adding an electric vehicle to the fleet.

I will need a home charger and I think solar would make financial sense too.

The EV will be 100% used for business.

So my question is, can the company pay for the charger and solar install? Is a portion of it tax deductible?

100% of the wall charger is for business use but of course the solar is probably 50/50 so how would this work?

Thanks.

There is no issue with a business expense being tax deductible. The installation cost might be capex rather than expense. Could there be a rates issue with using your home for business purposes like this ?

Ah now, there is no chance that your solar use is connected to business use.

If you are using that vehicle during the day then you are not charging it, not withstanding the fact that it is cheaper to charge at night anyway.

I can't see how anyone could justify a domestic solar install onto a domestic property and claim it is a business expense

Just playing devil's advocate ... but what about solar charging a battery during the day and then charging the car off the battery at night for business use in the following days?

Its generally cheaper to export the solar and charge the car at night of the grid.

Also given it’s a transport company I presume the usage would be higher than battery capacity.
