Social Welfare Question

I need advice please. I recently took early retirement from Public Service and I am a bit confused around Social Welfare. I was paying the low rate credit up to the time I retired. Do I have to sign on each week for credits?
I hope to get a part time job and put up a full stamp as I have already a few years stamps from early 70s and I understand that I need another year to qualify for a limited state pension. All advice will be greatfully received.

You can sign on for credits which will cover you for the same benfits/pensiosn that your contribution in the PS covered you for. It is not weekly, probably once every three months or even six months depending on the office. Call to your local SW office to make a claim for credits (same procedure as if you were getting paid Jobseeker's Benefits, almost same rules apply)

it would be very beneficial to start putting up an A contribution if you can get work (even part-time) for the reasons you state.

Thanks Welfarite
I hope to get a part time job to get an A stamp? How much do i need to earn and how long would I need to do it? Thanks again

Anything over E38 per week will get you an A contribution so if you have already signed for credits and you get even one A contribution any credits following that will be A rated credits

Thanks Black Sheep for info so if I worked one week and put up one A stamp all I need to do is sign on for credits thereafter, I dont need to work?

hi there. i have a question regarding my entitlement for social welfare payments. i have just returned from travelling for the past six months and ive come back to work in ireland in january. i have a few interviews in the new year for sub teaching posts. Since i havent worked in ireland since i did a bit of teaching work as part of my college course in june, i was wondering am i entitled to social welfare payments now??
