Article in today's IT titled "Ireland is ‘delivering’ more social homes, but that doesn’t mean it is building them"

This caught my eye:
At a meeting of councillors for the Dublin North Central Area in March, Jo Whittall, the deputy chief operations officer of Clúid – Ireland’s largest housing charity – told councillors it would like in future to sell off some social homes it owns to private buyers. These would most likely be ones they feel are too expensive to maintain. AHBs are nonprofit, so the money would be recycled to build more housing.

So even the housing charities experience that accomodation they own is better sold off than kept in the rental market. Private landlords are however deemed "gougers" if they would like to increase rent to a level to make it a viable proposition for them to continue operating a rental property, or "heartless" if they evict to sell.

This is Threshold and the left-wing academics. We landlords just sit back, do nothing and the rent rolls in. No understanding of the continuous investment that has to go into a rented house to keep it up to standard.

Cluid also has soft loans from the government, it doesn't have to borrow from a bank at a high interest rate to buy or improve like we do. It pays absolutely no tax either.

So a government funded tax exempt charity can sell off it off if the place becomes uneconomical. Meanwhile the government does its absolute best to trap us in the PRS and make us fund from our own pockets what has become a liability.
