Soakaway overflowing

We have a soakaway pit in the garden into which all the wastewater flows, along with the percolated waste from the septic tank. Its been working away for years, with no problem until about 6 weeks ago, when the soakway overflowed, and also backed up water into the septic tank, causing it to fill to capacity.
I had to empty the soakaway, and went to work on clearing all the drainage
areas of any buildup of sludge. After that, it all worked away again. I checked it after every shower, washing machine load etc, and the water was soaking away no problem, so I thought I had sorted it.

Then tonight the soakway overflowed again, same symptoms as before, septic tank full to the brim with water. I don't really see how the drainage holes could have sludged up again so quickly, so I'm kind of scratching my head about it now.
Any experience of this type of problem out there?
