Smell of gas from a Volvo

Hi,

My sister just phoned me up to ask me a question about her car. It is a 1989 Volvo "S something" (her words not mine!) and she is complaining about a smell of gas in it. It is not a gas run car, just an ordinary petrol engine.

I know the details are sparse but has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this or if it is harmful to either the driver or the car.

Methane smell could be coming from some kind of degarding foodstuff in the car?

a dead cat perhaps

Impacted underneath or stuffed down the front of the rad inside the grill ?

rotten egg smell is a dead catalyser

Will check that with her, but she is usually a very clean person so I would reckon that it probably won't be a piece of food, but it does sound like the only plausable cause at the moment.

I don't think that 89 Volvos had catalytic converters.

Sounds like an exhaust leak into the car - check rubber seals around doors, bootlid, etc.

...........another possability is a petrol leak.
