SMART Funds Investment Policy - Carry Forward Realised Losses?

morning all,
I have a taxation question and hopefully someone can help me.
I have taken a look at some of the writings on Investment Fund taxation and don't see what I am after. I do understand that Investment Fund losses may not be offset against say Equity Capital Gains.

About 4 years ago, I invested a sum of money with BOIL in five SMART Funds resulting in one BOIL portfolio/policy number.

Now, in order to meet some financial obligations, I must sell a percentage of this portfolio at a loss. In fact I am getting out of two of the five funds in the portfolio altogether.

My question is can I carry forward this loss to use against any potential proifts that the rest of the portfolio may have?

thanks, gallogly

As I understand it...

The fund managers usually calculate any tax due when you sell a portion of your investment and deduct it from the payment - so if you have not made a gain, you will pay no tax.

The realised loss is, in efffect, carried forward inside the fund.
