can anyone recommend what to do about slippy pathways around the back of house - north facing, gets very damp and hardly drys up in wintery weather at all but can get very slippy and dangerous. Is there anything I can put on them to clear it up?

tks for that. I've used the powerwasher over it regularly over last 12 months and it does work but it getting bloody cold for using it now, not to mention the waste of water.

Jayes Fluid or some other sort of anti microbial cleaner, you need to kill the microbes that are making the slime.

If the cause of the slipperiness is moss or lichen you can apply proprietary solutions to the surface that will remove them and prevent re-occurrence for a while.

The following link was plucked at random from a Google Search using the terms

"anti moss guard"

[broken link removed]

This is not a recommendation, I haven't used it myself and I have no connection to the product or firm.

Chloras or a similar substance at the local farmers coop will do the trick , comes in 5 gal drum lasts a long time & is a lot cheaper , just hose it down & give it a good brushing , they come up white
