Skype Out To Mobile In Other Country

Hi ,
I currently use Skype Out on Laptop and find it handy when I bring laptop abroad to phone home. Its only about 2 cent per minute.

My Question is if I bring my 02 Speakeasy mobile to Germany can my wife phone me using skype out from ireland without me being charged roaming charges. Because its skype do you still get charged these roaming charges or do we only pay the skype out charge of about 2 cent per minute?

Interesting query and I'd like to know the answer. I assume it depends where skype originate and route the call from and this could be any country so in theory you could pay much higher or lower roaming rates!
 
I just checked Comreg and it says for 02 0.29 cent per minute to answer a call so i assume this is what they will charge. Just not sure if skype counts as roaming assume it does
 
No. Your wife will still be Skyping an Irish phone number that will be forwarded to Germany on you mobile account - roaming.

If you have a local German number that she can Skype from Ireland, that will be at the lower rate. If you are in a hotel, check if they charge for incoming calls before doing this!

In some countries the mobile phone companies assign you a local number so that could be used by your wife, but I don't know if this exists in Germany.

makes sense it would be an irish mobile alright. typical mobile phone companies get you one way or the other. might try and get a german equiv of a speakeasy card when i get there.

You may have a problem getting another card in another country if your phone is locked to O2. But maybe they operate there?

If you can, it's a good way to go, as you usually get some free credit with the card (covering its cost) which is handy for texting home (the roaming texts cost a fortune!).
 
I wonder if a 3 skype phone would work in germany. Ok You would be roaming on the phone but would the skype function constitute a call? also if you received a skype call on it would it be same as receiving a normal call and would normal roaming charges apply?
