Sky switching to streaming and away from the satellite dish?

Why not just watch all the saorview channels via their broadband players (RTE Player/ Virgin Media Player/ TG4 player) and the freeview channels with a VPN and their players (BBC IPlayer, ITV X, Channel 4 etc.) ? A cheap VPN costs no more than €3.60 a month. All can be loaded on a cheap €40 Amazon Firestick if you dont have Apps available on your Smart TV.

Its a blurry mess. Love to hear the sales pitch to the advertising. That advert you've spent vast amounts of money for peak time TV. Yes we'll be downscaling that to lower quality than your old PAL tube TV from the 1980s. No one will notice.

I very much doubt that any streamed content these days is 640 x 480. I presume you're exaggerating for dramatic effect? :D

@Flybytheseat Primarily because I like the idea of a non broadband option, in case I lose my net access.

Also, you may be intetested to know that Amazon have stated to block third party apps on their firesticks. Granted they initially acted to block pirate services, but I don't see why they won't go on to block other competitive services, as time goes on, to try and keep people viewing their (sometimes poor) content. So, in conclusion, get an android box, rather than a firestick, if you want to rely on apps or players

Why not just watch all the saorview channels via their broadband players... and the freeview channels with a VPN and their players...
If someone was happy enough with the free to air UK and saorview channels then, if your living arrangement allows, the best set up is a dish and aerial.
