Sky Digital Cable

hi,
We need to move a sky digital cable from the dish to the house due to changing sitting room. We're not adding a port, just moving it.
Does anyone know if the cable can be bought? The current cable is too short and we need to have a longer one as the room is further away from the dish.
Dont really want to pay for someone to do it if it's easy for us to do!
Thanks

If you mean cabling from a satellite dish to receiver/decoder box then you probably need RG6 or CT100 (or equivalent). You should be able to buy this by the metre from the likes of Peats, Maplin or an electrical shop/wholesalers. Don't use RG59 or cheapo co-ax not suitable for the job as other than for short runs the signal loss/degradation will most likely be significant. For more background see here, boards.ie (down at the moment?) Satellite TV forum and Google for more info.

BTW. 'RG-6' is a US Military standard, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RG-6) most RG6 I have seen sold here is 'cheapo' cable. The Sky 'standard' cable is CT100, but this has not been made for a few years. You can get PF100 in maplins (google for online sources) etc. If you need more than a few meters it will be cheaper to buy 100 meter role!
