Sky Broadband Fiber To The Home 1GB( on its own no extras) how much do people pay,I Don,t Mind Changing Providers Have SKY at Present,

The fibre ONT (Optical Network Terminal) and provider's broadband router both use wall plug power supplies so if the mains is out but you have an alternative power source then you just plug them into that same as any other device. But if a local power outage also cuts power to the local cabinet or other parts of the network infrastructure then you're probably offline anyway
Thanks Clubman
I know some time ago we had a local Power cut My house which no longer had a Copper phone line lost SKY Broadband,
next door also had a power cut at the same time still had Broadband,
Spoke to SKY today now looking for 45 for 1 GB and 39 for 500MB,
Thanks everyone for your help, I am no longer up to Date on some of the techinical end of things,

Yeah, I looked at that during Storm Eowyn, both my ONT and modem run off 12V and low enough power usage so could easily be run off a battery or any of the power banks (one with 12V output preferably to save on conversion losses).

Thanks Leo,
I will work on getting it rigged up so I have the correct power to both the ONT and Modem ,

You mean that your neighbour had ADSL broadband over copper or something?

If I understand correctly the fact he still had a live phone line Allowed him to have full Fiber Broadband while the ESD power was off,
But I stand to be corrected,

That doesn't make sense to me.
If they had fibre broadband, same as you, and yours was down because of the power outage then I don't see how them having a copper phone line should make any difference.
Perhaps there was something else going on here?

Hopefully some poster in the know well correct my miss understanding If I am incorrect,

Maybe they were using the internet on their phones 4G/5G and/or sharing it with other devices around the house via a mobile hotspot?

I will be on to sky tomorrow and will report back on what the say re power cuts with and without a copper phone line,

I think that broadband is one of those things where you need to change every year as you come to the end of the discounted period.
It's minimally painful to do that.
I think that applies to most things. This year though I couldn't seem to get a better health insurance than the LAYA one I already had that went up by 20%

The presence of a copper phone line has no impact on the availability of a FTTH service whatsoever. The ONT and modem must both be powered to enable any communication over that channel.

The FTTC or older broadband over copper was slightly simpler in the event of a power outage in that you only had to power the modem to get internet access.
