I am putting down new skirting boards (red deal). I have dyed them and I was going to sand and seal them before varnishing them - is there a need to sand and seal them ?
I am about to do that this weekend - just got clear varnish and light sandpaper - I am hoping to give one coat of varnish - then a quick sand followed by the final coat of varnish.
as a painter i'd recomend the skirting boards were sealed with preferably a sanding basecoat rather than a sanding sealer it has a higher solids level and gives a better finish I def would not varish straight on bare wood if you are looking for any sort of a decent finish
