John is single but has lived with Mary for 5 years and they have one child together. Only John works. Is he still just entitled to the single person credit plus PAYE credit or can he also claim a credit for Mary?
they'd have to get married, then he can claim the married person's credit and allowance and also the carer's credit if Mary is looking after the child at home.
