Hi,

Freinds of mine have the following situation and I'm trying to help them out. I don't see any issues with this but I just thought I'd confirm.

Couple living together with a four year old baby. Not married. He's working full time and she's working part time.

He hasn't claimed the single parnet tax credit since his son was born. Presumably he can claim this now and get retrospective credits. I think it's around Eur 1,500 per year, so he should eb owed around Eur 6,000. Is that right.

Presumably, they can also claim TRS but only for one of them as they are not married. Presumably all they need to do is to send in the completed TRS and they'll instruct their morgage provider to reduce the monthly payments accordingly.

By claiming the single parent credit, presumably it doesn't affect the TRS??

Help apprecited.

co habiting couples do not qualifiy for single parents allowance. if they are both on mortgage title then they both qualify for mortgage tax relief, they need to complete a TRS1 form and forward to the tax office.
