anyone know where I can get a single downlighter, ones with their own transformer ?

I was looking in B&Q and they have only big single downlighters and any of the sets they have, the wire is too short i.e. the downlighters would all have to go really close together and I wanted to get them more spaced out.

Anyone know where to buy ?

Go to an electrical wholesaler, bigger range, better brand, cheaper price, but don;t expect the guys working there to give you the time of day, never mind any advice!

Where ?

Thanks Dan but do you know where there is one in Dub/Meath ?

Downlighter

Try Clonee electrical - down from Powercity in Blanchardstown

Hicken Lighting in town do them too

Re: Downlighter

argos 240 volt downlighters
they come in packs of three but the quality is very good and there is no transformer to go wrong

Re: Downlighter

I personally prefer 240 volts as you can use a dimmer switch with them, and the effect is very good, you can't use a dimmer with a transformer.

Re: Thanks

I have downlighters, complete with transformers, on a dimmer switch. The lights with their own transformers are low voltage and the bulbs do not blow as often.

Re: Thanks

Do you hear a small buzzing sound?

I imagine you have a specialised transformer

downlighter

Michael Garry in Bolton Street opposite the collage has a great range of these fittings and is very helpful.

A word of caution if you cut a hole in your ceiling to fit these downlighters ( I'm thinking of the 12 volt type recessed with a transformer ) you are removing the fire protection offered by the plaster board ceilng .

Dimmer

You can now.
