Side Access Passage Cover/Roof

Has anybody covered in or roofed the side passage of their house (standard semi) in order to use it as a storage area with a door each end for through access?

If so,

A)Is it worth doing and how much did it cost to do?
B)Can anybody recommend somebody who would do it in the North Kildare/Dublin West area?

I have had one quote for €8k which seems very high.
