Should we get rid of the thumbs down button?

Wouldn't need a thumbs down button if we had a block button,

Does the "Ignore" button not do that?

There is a lot of discussion of bringing in full block button on the Xenforo forum.

I find GSheehy's posts annoying so I block him.
ClubMan loves his posts so quotes them.
A full block function would block GSheehy and Clubman's quote of him.
So the thread would be meaningless.
It would lead to more disputes.

That will be done, but I don't like leaving an incorrect statement without a thumbs down where any unsuspecting soul can read it

So I post something which you consider incorrect.
You use the "incorrect flag"
The OP disputes this.

I think it would be better if something is clearly incorrect and not immediately corrected by a reply and is dangerous, report it and the mods will deal with it.

It doesn't happen that often. Usually the person acknowledges it and edits their post.

Ignore = I can't see the posters comment when you're logged in. You can if you're logged out.

The ignored person sees what you post and can quote you, leading to them (and others) wondering why you haven't replied to them. You don't see them unless you log out.

It doesn't fulfill a block function. I annoy you so much that, to enhance your user experience, you block me completely. You can't see the rubbish I post anymore and I can't see your philosophical contributions. Neither of us can quote each other. When you're blocked you're blocked (unless you decide to undo it). We're both happy.

It works well on Reddit. Not seen too many threads that have become meaningless because a person is blocked by another. And, you enhance your own use of the sub so that you don't see the same dross day after day, from the same people. It's a Godsend on Twitter & FB, they'd be unbearable without it.

You can block mods but they can still see your posts if something needs to be deleted. They can reply to your posts but you just don't see them as they're blocked.

As a compromise, and if it was possible, you could roll it out on a trial basis to those who post in their own name. But, it's probably an all or nothing function.

On this;

I want you to tell me why I am wrong e.g. there is no CGT on the PPR.

As someone else said recently in another thread, there's an assumption here that the person replying to the post has the time or inclination to correct it because sometimes the accurate answer can be very long. Fine if you're retired and have the time. And ,maybe, sometimes the person asking isn't being genuine, knows the answer, but just acts the fool. Maybe the demographic here is such that folk are retired and have nothing better to be doing than thinking up questions that have little or no relevance to them.
