Should site be marked from center of road?

I am currently in the process of purchasing a site, a land surveyor has marked out the site on the vendors behalf and provided me with a map of the outline. The half acre plot is rectangular in shape and marked from the center of the road, so in reality i'm not actually getting half an acre of the actual field, is this normal practice and if so what is the logic behind it?

This is normal practice as it gives you access to the site from the road. However it is always advisable to get your own surveyor to check boundaries before signing the contract.

Yeah i have measured this out myself and if the measurements are taken from the center of the road, then it works out at the agreed upon half acre....so looks like everything is correct, thanks for the clarification on the theory behind this
