Just received an income tax bill of €500 from the revenue office TODAY relates to my income tax in 2009. there's also a €40 late submission fee on top of this.

It states that income levy-self: 30k @ 1.67% = 500.
After google around, I found it's self-employment levy. By checking my P60 of the year, it is just my PAYE earning.
I have paid all relevant PAYE, PRSI & income levy of this. Why the revenue is taking off another €500 after 2yrs, plus €40 late penalty from my PAYE wages? whats going to happen if they decide to send this bill the next yr? Something just sounds ridiculous!

I was running a small business with partner yrs ago, which gone liquidation last yr. we ended up with minus earnings. I was lucky enough still having a job to make ends meet.

Could someone tell me if I should appeal or pay it out of my pocket? Any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Did you remember to include Income Levy deducted from salary in your tax return? If this was omitted, or if Revenue failed to key in this while inputting your return, this may be giving rise to the above liability. If this is the case, just write to Revenue asking them to amend the tax assessment accordingly.

Thanks T McGibney for response! they did count my income levy under PAYE. but they are requiring additional levy which is "Income Levy-Self" out of my PAYE total. :(

Do you mind posting the following figures:

'Income Levy - Self' figure (under 'PRSI/Levies/TRS') and
'Income Levy Deducted under PAYE (under 'Other Credits/Reliefs')
