Should an Art Fair charge me VAT?

My question is about VAT. If I am part of an Art Fair, should I be charged VAT on the space I am using?

Unless you have a VAT Exemption Certificate, I believe so.

I am not an expert but...

The Art Fair organisers must charge all their customers VAT.

If the customer is registered for VAT, they can reclaim it.

But as you are an artist, it is unlikely that you are registered for VAT.

So you don't charge VAT and you cannot reclaim it when you are charged it.

Id say yeah. Why not.

Rather than reclaiming the VAT, you must expense the gross cost of renting the space, i.e. rental cost plus VAT.
