Can anyone suggest a weekend destination that has sun and a beach.
That is'nt too far away

jump on a plane to Split, walk out of the airport, keep going another 400m and you're ON the beach!

it's 2 1/2 hours, there are plenty of places to stay nearby, just hop on a bus into Trogir or onto Sibenik, you'll see signs everywhere.

But for a short short hop probably somewhere like the south of France or Malaga, I mentioned Split as I'm looking forward to getting back there and getting some rays, they're up over 28degrees again today!

why not fly to Lisbon and travel to Cascais by bus/taxi or train - their is fab beech and also lots of nice restaurants. Went there last year and it was very nice - Sat - Tuesday.....
Enjoy

Is that not about an hour from the beach?

Nope, developments over the years now mean that Barcelona is well and truly on the beach.

The beaches get better as you move along the coast but the area around Barceloneta has some great city beaches.

Cadiz south of spain, fly with ryanair to jerez the bus ride 30min to cadiz lovely place

Quinta da Marinha, I can personally recommend, stayed there twice.

And well done on choice of Cascais, it's fantastic !!

Another alternative would be Valencia. The beach is about 20-25min tram ride from the city centre. Excellent beach and an interesting city to boot!!!

Fly to Faro in the algarve with ryan air, A taxi will take you to any of the resorts for 20 - 50 quid. Beaches are gorgeous and accom can be quite cheap

How about Nice, 25 minutes on the bus from the airport and you are on the prominade and beach. Even better is go west towards Antibes, fantastic area, expensive though.
