i want to buy a present for someone who was talking about a shop that sells prints of old photographs of ireland. all i remember is that the shop is somewhere along the dublin quays but i've tried google and the yellow pages without any joy. anyone any ideas of where this shop is? or similar? the photos are of a specific locality so a generic "ye olde oirish" posters/photos whouldn't do the trick.

you might be right clubman. i got another tip-off from a friend that there's a place across the river from the clarence hotel. i'm gonna check tomorrow. cheers.

The place I'm thinking of would be amost opposite the Clarence Hotel which is across the river and on the south quays all right.

Try the National Library - They have a few specific [broken link removed] which you can search online, though you can't actually see the image online :rolleyes . You can also search for photographs and they will do a photographic reprint of any of their items. I'm not sure how fast the service is if you looking for an Xmas pressie.

Not sure if this helps but there is a stall in the Fairyhouse market which is on every Sunday that does loads of old photos. They are categorised according to the area so you should be able to find something of the area you are looking for without much hassle.

thats probably not much use to you now though cos you won't be able to get them till the new year....

What about trying some of the stalls in the George's St. Market - there are at least 2 that have that kind of stuff
There is also a good shop on either South Anne's St. or Duke St. that specialises in old books, photos etc. - a little more pricey than the stalls though ....

thanks folks. i found the shop; it is on the quays on the capel street side a few buildings away from the bridge. thanks for the other suggestions but i've spent enough already.

i have to say they make a great present if you're stuck coming up to christmas especially for someone older who is unlikely to have many photographs from their youth. i got a photograph of the village from about 1900 and you can see the actual house where they grew up.
