share gains and losses

Is it possible to offset share gains against losses.?? IE...

Brought shares 15/10/07 sold them 29/05/08 profit $9000
Brought shares 08/01/08 sold them 30/06/08 loss $7500

Can i offset these against each other at tax end financial yr 2007-08 ???

Are you based in the US? If so, you'll need to have a look at a US-based site. This site only deals with Irish tax queries. In Ireland, yes, you would be able to offset a capital loss incurred in the same year or prior to a gain.
